The Hunting Tartan consists of a green background with seven red check lines. Representing the green leaves and orange/red berries of the Rowan tree (mountain ash). Most importantly worn by Menzies clansmen in historic battles. The ancient hunting tartan consists of a paler version of green and a brighter orange red. As a result, the tartan gives the appearance of the colours being produced by natural plant dyes.
