Our 2024 Clan Gathering will be held over the 2nd weekend in August.

2023 PROGRAMME.

THURSDAY 10TH AUGUST

Whisky Tasting

5.30 – 6.30pm Hosted by Dewar‘s World of Whisky at the Castle.  

Welcome Supper at the Castle

7.00 – 9.00 pm An informal light supper with an opportunity to socialise with fellow Clan Society members. 

This will include a 30 minute presentation on botanist and surgeon Archibald Menzies by our Canadian members Ted Menzies and Graeme Menzies.

FRIDAY 11TH AUGUST

Historical Coach Tour.

9.00am –1.00pm This year’s historical tour will depart the Weem Church car park, making its way up north side of Loch Tay to Killin via Aberfeldy, Kenmore and Lawers. Stopping at mill west side of Killin. Then down through Killin and then walk along the west end of Loch following old railway to Finlarig castle and site of old pier. Returning along north road again and then alongside of Drummond Hill stopping to see Comrie Castle and back to Weem.

18th Menzies Clan Golf Tournament

1.00pm Meet at Kenmore Golf Club Pro Shop for 1.30 tee off.  Clubs and trolleys may be hired at the Club: please arrange prior to game.

Tour of the Castle Walled Gardens

2.00 – 3.00pm A walking presentation of the history, the work and discoveries taking place in the Castle’s Walled Gardens.

Scottish Country Dancing

2.30 – 4.00pm at the Castle. Beginners of all ages welcome. Come and learn some of the dances performed at the Ceilidh.

Bagpiping

3.00 – 4.00pm A chance to play the pipes with some of the Menzies Pipe Band.

Castle Tour

4.00 – 5.30pm Featuring the history of the Clan and the development of the Castle. Meet in front of the Castle if dry, or in the Old Kitchen if wet. (1.5 hours)

Drinks Reception

7.30pm Held at the Castle in The Great Room (alternatively outside if weather fine)

Clan Dinner – The Dewar Room and The Pink Room

8.00 –11.00pm Hot buffet style dinner featuring local Scottish produce. Wine and other beverages available from the bar. Seating plan for friends and families who wish to sit together (please advise on booking form).

Raffle tickets for sale.

Dress: smart/formal; Highland dress and tartan encouraged.

SATURDAY 12TH AUGUST

 Castle Menzies 

 9.30am  Open to all Clan members

Clan Society Annual General Meeting

10.00 –11.00am Dewar Room at Castle Menzies

Clan March

11.30am Assemble at the Castle to march to Weem with the pipes and on to the Aileen Chraggan Hotel.

Light Lunch

12.00pm at the Aileen Chraggan Hotel, Weem Village.

Atholl & Breadalbane Highland Games

1.30pm Aberfeldy Showground. Assemble at the entrance to the ring at the Showground for the Clan March. (please remember to wear some tartan)

Clan Ceilidh – The Dewar Room.  

8.30pm – Midnight. Entertainment and dancing featuring Ceilidh stalwarts The Gallivanters.

Full bar provided.

Raffle draw.

Dress: Casual; Highland dress and tartan encouraged.

SUNDAY 13TH AUGUST

Church Service –

10.00 – 11.00am Weem Parish Church, Weem Village  

Castle and Shop

10.30am Open to Members  

Friends of Castle Menzies 

12.00 –2.00pm A FOCM Members get together at the Castle. Followed by discussion of FOCM projects in the Old Kitchen in the Castle.
